These bowls were specifically made for tea ceremony, by Dutch potter and chajin (tea person) Xander. They’re made of French clay and have a white / creme coloring with darker brown spots. Every bowl is unique, which creates a beautiful arrangement when sitting in ceremony with a group of people. The bottom of the bowls is sanded down, giving them smooth stand.
The color of the bowls will change with time, the glaze will become crackled. As the tea will seep into the cracks, a beautiful brown pattern will result. Yes, these bowls will only become more beautiful with use.
These bowls have a rough glaze and this makes them interact with the tea more. They are great for darker earthier teas as they will make them smoother.When you order a bowl, we’ll select one randomly. As each bowl is different, the pattern may differ from the one on the pictures. The dimensions differ with each bowl as well.
